Tyler Blackett has performed an incredible turnaround on his career.

A year after being an unwanted extra at Celtic he is a key figure as Reading, managed by Jaap Stam attempt to win promotion to the Premier League.

No tears were shed at Celtic when the defender ended his loan season or at Old Trafford when he moved on to Reading for a token fee.

Blackett managed just three SPFL appearances for Celtic before making way for Kieran Tierney.

Less than a month after being unveiled on a season long loan it was virtually over for the player who at 21 had managed six Premier League appearances for Manchester United.

Blackett just never looked at home with Celtic, talk that his loan would be cut short in January proved wide of the mark with the defender staying on for the remainder of the season.

What Stam had picked up is hard to gauge but after taking charge of Reading he placed his trust in the defender with Reading currently in fifth place, six points inside the play-off zone.

Having been in the team since the autumn the 22-year-old has turned his game around, by August he could be back in the Premier League playing under the guidance of one of the best defenders in the last 20 years.
