Bobby Madden has saved the day for Lowland League leaders East Kilbride.

He may be unable to offer Stuart Armstrong or Patrick Roberts protection on the pitch but the FIFA ref knows how to handle a pitch inspection.

On Tuesday morning a heavy snowfall greeted the officials at K Park on the day of their league match with Hawick RA.

Even on an artificial surface the snow required some shifting but with a fleet of tractors on call plus Madden the game went ahead as EK moved to within three points of the title.

K P manager Ian Aitchison told the Daily Record: “Bobby Madden came up and did the inspection, ruling the pitch playable around 2pm.

“He was happy there was no standing water on the pitch and the surface was safe for the players.

“We were over the moon after all the effort put in to clear the pitch.”

If East Kilbride win the Lowland League they will play off against the winners of the Highland League over two legs to meet the team that finishes bottom of SPFL League Two for a place in the senior set up.

Last season Celtic beat EK 2-0 in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup.
