Lee Congerton has revealed some of the top names that he signed for Chelsea.
Celtic’s new Head of Recruitment spent seven years at Stamford Bridge with the club notorious for failing to develop talent.
John Terry was the last player to come through the ranks and make an impact at Chelsea with over 30 players currently signed and out on loan.
Under the surface however there are a number of former Chelsea players making an impact in the game- far from Stamford Bridge.
Congerton worked at Chelsea from 2005 to 2011 and uncovered a number of players who made their mark elsewhere in the game.
Speaking to the Daily Record he revealed: “At Chelsea we signed Scott Sinclair for £200,000 and Ryan Bertrand from Gillingham for £150,000.
“Fabio Borini for 110,000 euros and Patrick van Aanholt for a few hundred Euros and signing him later for Sunderland for £1million and they sold him recently for £14million.
“That’s what motivates me. There’s no correct way in signing a player. Talents that can become superstars of tomorrow is what has attracted me to this role and Celtic have done that well over the years. I hope to continue that with the good network we have in place.
“This club is one of the biggest clubs in Europe and we want to be playing Champions League football. So players we are recruiting need to be able to play Champions League football.”
Since leaving Chelsea Congerton has worked at Hamburg and Sunderland.
His immediate task at Celtic will be to bring in additions ready for the summer Champions League qualifiers.
Kouassi Eboue has already been signed for that task with Rodgers and Congerton working in tandem to bring in the quality required to make an impact in the group stage.
