Brendan Rodgers wants his players to use the draw with Sevco to inspire his players to the treble.
Collectively it was one hell of an off day with only Scott Brown and Craig Gordon doing themselves justice.
For the players that weren’t involved in the 2015 Scottish Cup semi-final against Inverness Caley Thistle it was a reminder that on an off day honest mistakes influence results.
Yesterday’s result wasn’t fatal, with 11 matches assured between now and the end of the season it is essential that lessons are learned to ensure that there are 12 matches left finishing off with the Scottish Cup Final at Hampden in May.
Bobby Madden and the Celtic Park had an influence on the result but there’s not much that can be done about those elements.
Rodgers certainly didn’t welcome the result but there’s no doubt that it’ll be mentioned regularly between now and April 23.
“It will only have a positive impact for us,” he reflected after the match to The Sun. “I think that, okay, if we win the game today it is four games and another victory against Rangers.
“I didn’t think it would, but maybe getting the result can help us.
“We want to win – you’re disappointed when you don’t but it just makes sure that we’re ready for that game.”
CRAIG GORDON
Fresh from signing his new contract Craig Gordon was in outstanding form yesterday.
Twice he denied Martyn Waghorn when he was one-on-one with the keeper, even with the Sevco goal he produced an outstanding save to stop the initial effort.
Afterwards Rodgers said: “He was brilliant. He had one in the first half when Waghorn was away in a one v one.
“I said to him afterwards I think he is now, having played Champions League and seen the level of his game, one of the top goalkeepers in Europe for me.
“You saw his performance today. When he had to make big saves he made big saves. He was first class.”
