Steven Thomson has explained his hasty retreat from Twitter claiming that he was never happy with the social media platform.

Yesterday a tweet from the BBC Scotland pundit attracted a lot of attention when he claimed that Rodgers was joking when he said that St Mirren had provided Celtic with their toughest domestic test.

Thompson went on to claim that Aberdeen and Sevco had provided tougher tests but on Radio Scotland last night he failed to mention anything about Celtic’s seven victories over those teams.

After a high pitched giggle Thommo explained: “I found his comments a bit of a joke because I didn’t agree with them, that was pretty much all that I said.

I stand by that, I don’t think that was the hardest test that they’ve had. Graham (Spiers) mentioned the Motherwell game, Motherwell 2-0 up, then 3-2 up then it’s a last minute goal isn’t it from Rogic? That’s got to be a tougher test.

I know that St Mirren did really well, they were excellent, Jack Ross enhanced his reputation again but the game lasts 90 minutes and they lost 4-1 and it could have been more than that.

For me it’s not the toughest opponents that Celtic have faced this year. Brendan Rodgers has been brilliant for Scottish football, I’m a massive fan of his. He talks so much sense to the media generally but I just don’t agree with this particular comment. We’re allowed our opinion are we not?”

Of course you are allowed an opinion, on Sunday the BBC pundit claimed that Rodgers was joking.

No one is better placed than the Celtic manager to assess which club has provided his team with the toughest test.

On twitter Thommo suggested that Dons and Gers had provided Celtic with tougher tests, back on radio he decided to use Motherwell as his example.

Celtic fans were quick to express their opinion on the challenge that their side has faced this season from Pittodrie and Ibrox, it seems that Thompson didn’t take kindly to opinions different from his own.

Should he return to twitter perhaps Thommo can give his comments on whether a BBC page that claims he was paid a £485,000 EBT during his time at Rangers is a joke or not.

At around £3,000 per week ‘tax free’ the club would have had to pay out around £5,000 per week to put £3,000 in his bank account with around £2,000 going on income tax and national insurance.
