Brendan Rodgers can’t wait to get his hands on the Premiership trophy.
The SPFL won’t hand the trophy over if the hoops win at Hearts on April 2 but the celebrations will be heard beyond the visitors dressing room.
A win for Dundee over Aberdeen two days earlier would hand Celtic the title but nothing will dull Rodgers’ satisfaction at clinching his first title and the hoops sixth successive championship.
“It was our intention to win every trophy, that was our idea, so this is our next one,” he told the Evening Times. “Can we win this and as quick as we can?
“I always said when I came in we weren’t defending a title, we were looking to win it. The ideal scenario is you win it yourself, but I’ll take Dundee winning.
“We never expected to win it as early as we can. We’ve done our best in every single game and an immense amount of credit must be given to the players for the focus and mentality they’ve had and games like today they can see through and win.
“We never take it for granted or have been complacent. We have to win it and earn it.”
Yesterday’s win is unlikely to feature strongly in the end of season dvd but that’s always the case in a 38 match campaign.
Jozo Simunovic put Celtic in front just before half-time with Stuart Armstrong heading home the second early in the second half from the best move of the match.
Dundee pulled a goal back through a stunning strike by Faissal El Bakhtaoui but Celtic held on to regain their 25 point advantage over Aberdeen with nine matches left to play.
Following the international break a defeat for Aberdeen or a win for Celtic will deliver the title to Rodgers’ squad.
