Celtic’s u-17 side got the weekend off to a great start with a 9-0 win over Ayr United.

It took the hoops 24 minutes to open the scoring but after an own goal Kerr McInroy collected a hat-trick, Stephen Welsh, Tommy Caffrey, Ewan Henderson, Robbie Deas and Kieran Campbell were all on target.

Since the turn of the year Michael O’Halloran’s side have been free scoring with almost every player in the side a goal threat.

For the first 20 minutes the Ayshire side competed well but once a defender turned a Campbell cross into his own net.

After that the heads went down and the goals rained in as the hoops scored four more before the break.

McInroy scored his first by controlling a pass 12 yards from goal and netting on the half volley before firing in a low shot from the edge of the box..

Nine minutes from the break Welsh headed in a Henderson cross with Caffrey completing the first half scoring from close range with a close range effort.

Ten minutes into the second half McInroy completed his hat-trick with an opportunist lob from 30 yards after a mix up in the Ayr defence.

Just before the hour mark Henderson took a move off the training ground, racing towards the edge of the box to meet McInroy’s corner and send a great shot in at the near post.

In the 63rd minute Deas sent a powering header into the net from the corner but it wasn’t until the final kick of the ball that Campbell made it 9-0 with a low shot after coming in off the right flank.

Ayr had their goalkeeper to thank for keeping the score in single figures but it’s questionable what value the fixture offered the sides.

In the last published league table Ayr had picked up eight points from 18 matches in a league that includes Forth Valley and Fife Elite but has no place for St Johnstone, Inverness Caley Thistle or Ross County.

CELTIC: Aidan McAdams: Max Potter, Stephen Welsh, Robbie Deas, Dan Church (Michael McLaughlin 68); Kerr McInroy (Kristi Marku59), Wallace Duffy; Keiran Campbell, Ewan Henderson, Andy Kerr (Scott Robertson 75); Tommy Caffrey (Josh Jack 75)
