Five players whose Celtic future is in doubt

As the dust settles from Sunday at Hampden Brendan Rodgers can make some serious plans going ahead.

Celltic will be back at Hampden on May 27 for the final of the Scottish Cup, half of his squad will be playing internationals on June 10/11 and the first Champions League qualifiers are on July 11/12.

That schedule doesn’t make life easy but Rodgers has been planning ahead since the January transfer window closed with only Eboue Kouassi added to his squad.

Last summer the transfer window was fairly frantic as the Irishman tried to negotiate Champions League qualifiers, get to know his squad and survive an injury crisis in central defence that saw him without Dedryck Boyata, Erik Sviatchenko and Jozo Simunovic.

Celtic’s first team payroll is still on the bloated side with a number of players signed by Ronny Deila no longer required.

None of the players with first team experience out on loan have advanced their case with new arrivals likely to push them out into the cold.

Scott Allan, Nadir Ciftci and Saidy Janko will be sent out on loan again if deals can’t be agreed to terminate their contracts while Kris Commons, Emilio Izaguirre and Efe Ambrose will be out of contract at the end of the season.

A number of others who have been involved with the first team this season could be on their way with Rodgers utterly ruthless when it comes to getting the best possible team on the park.
