Brendan Rodgers can’t get his Celtic players to take a break!

The hoops started their pre-season work in Slovenia in late June and will be in action until May 27 in the Scottish Cup Final with international fixtures for most of the squad a fortnight later.

Apart from a short break in January that involved a week long trip to Dubai it’s been non-stop for the treble chasers who have navigated through the domestic campaign unbeaten.

Rodgers main aim at the moment is to get his side to peek for the Scottish Cup Final against Aberdeen but the July Champions League qualifiers are also on his mind.

Most of Rodgers’ squad have been on the go all year round but such is the mentality that he has installed he can’t get his players to take a break.

You have to look at each individual and make sure there is a plan, so we’ve created that quite a while ago,” the Celtic boss explained to The Sun.

The players know where they are at in terms of their recovery and rest. That’s vital, but I’ve got to say this is a group with no ego.

This season I’ve said to one or two players at times ‘Listen, I want to give you that break’ and they didn’t want it.

They wanted to work, to still be here. I suppose the environment we’ve fostered here, the spirit’s good, they want to be in here, they want to prepare themselves.”

Rodgers will take a short break after the Scottish Cup Final but will be on call for transfer business before preparing for pre-season training on June 19.
