As Scott Brown and Celtic get attacked from all sides for using ‘red tape’ to appeal the ordering off at Ross County on Sunday the inconsistencies of refereeing decisions are under investigation online.

Celtic are expected to submit an appeal by 3pm today which will be heard next week allowing the hoops skipper to play in Sunday’s Scottish Cup semi-final against Sevco.

The fact that in some circumstances a red card in the SPFL results in a Scottish Cup suspension and in others only applies in the SPFL is a different matter entirely.

Referees are continually briefed and trained about what is allowed and what challenges merit red and yellow cards- how they interpret those instructions is another matter.

The Celtic Lisboa twitter account is able to put together different clips to highlight some of the strangest inconsistencies.

In one of their latest offerings they show the most extreme contrast. While Jason Holt escapes without even a free kick being awarded a challenge slightly less ferocious from Brown resulted in a red card.

Until the SFA break their vow of silence to explain these decisions supporters are going to be left wondering how some decisions are being made.
