The final fixtures

|

It’s that frustrating time of the season for football fans as they wait to hear who their team will be playing in the final month of the season.

The make up of the top and bottom six clubs in the Premiership was known on Saturday night with only the negotiating of television rights holding up an announcement.

What can be said with certainty is that Celtic will start the post split fixtures away at Ibrox on April 29 and finish up at home on May 21 when the trophy will be presented to Scott Brown, for the sixth time running.

Both of those matches will be shown by Sky Sports with the other matches certain to be shared between Sky and BT Sport.

Celtic’s fixtures should be fairly straightforward to sort out but with Sevco and Partick Thistle appearing in the top six for the first time ever it’s likely that either or both of them may end up with 18 home matches and 20 away games.

This weekend’s matches have no impact on the post split fixtures, tomorrow morning at 11am the SPFL will announce the schedule, click below for the likely matches of the champions.

SEVCO away, 29 April

Slightly surprisingly the SPFL announced a month in advance that the first post split fixture will be at Ibrox on April 29.

Like Partick Thistle the new club have never been in the top six before and should have been the last consideration when it came to fixture planning.

Celtic won 2-1 at Ibrox at the end of December, after the excitement of their draw at Celtic Park last month the natives will be whipped into a frenzy to provide the result that they live for.

ST JOHNSTONE, home May 6/7

The Saints have only visited Celtic Park once with just a Dedryck Boyata header splitting the sides in January.

The last clash in Perth was eventful with Celtic getting a break with a penalty from Craig Thomson that wasn’t handball.

Celtic turned on the style in the second half to win 5-2 with the final goal from Moussa Dembele worthy of winning any goal of the season competition.

ABERDEEN, away May 13/14

This could be a real tough one, after their flop against Sevco Derek McInnes’ side owe something to their home supporters.

Earlier in the season Celtic should have been out of sight but had to rely on a goal from Tom Rogic who could have picked up a hat trick.

Coming in the middle of the Champions League campaign it was good to come away with full points, this fixture will be no less demanding.

PARTICK THISTLE, away May 16/17

A first ever top six trip across to Maryhill, back in December the hoops hit top form as they enjoyed a 4-1 Friday night win over the Jags.

If the hoops go into this match still unbeaten in the SPFL the pressure will be intense to keep it going but so far Brendan’s team has stood up and embraced the challenges.

Thistle took a point from Celtic Park last week, with a team close to full strength the hoops should collect full points.

HEARTS, home May 21

Having started the season at Tynecastle it’ll be nice to raise the trophy against the Edinburgh side to wrap up the SPFL campaign.

After a nervy 2-1 win back in August the hoops have handed out 4-0 and 5-0 wins against the Jambos since then.

Patrick Roberts always looks good for a goal against the men in maroon, don’t bet against him finding the net in his farewell (for now) Celtic appearance.

Fixtures are speculative but give an even spread of home and away matches, all game look like being televised live.
