Walter Smith became quite forgetful as he was questioned in court this morning as he appeared at the fraud trial of Craig Whyte.
The legendary former Ibrox boss was in charge during the handover of power after Whyte gave Dave Murray a pound coin to take over the troubled institution.
Reaching the Champions League group stage had become critical for the survival of the club with payment of the wee tax case delayed in order to bring in players such as Nikita Jelavic.
Smith quit at the end of the 2010/11 season with Ally McCoist taking on the burden of reaching the Champions League group stage.
It seems that as soon as he stepped down the one time Scotland boss dropped his interest in the success or otherwise of the club. Malmo knocked Rangers (IL) out in the second qualifying round for the Champions League.
McCoist is expected to take the stand today with the case being followed avidly on James Doleman’s twitter feed.
