After a season of footballing hell Barry Ferguson fears that next season is going to be much the same.

At the start of the season the former Clyde boss was right behind #goingfor55 but reality quickly kicked in with even Aberdeen finishing nine points ahead of the squad Mark Warburton created.

After watching Celtic complete the season unbeaten Ferguson has written off a title challenge from Ibrox next season.

That sort of message won’t sell many season tickets as Pedro Caixinha attempts to bring in some Mexican players even more obscure than the current Ibrox boss. It’s unlikely that any of the Mexican’s will be real Rangers men.

Caixinha has talked about bringing in warriors ready to battle but as he looks through a depressing squad list Ferguson knows that the reality is far different.

Breaking the depressing news to Daily Record readers he explained: “We need big guys with their chests puffed out. That doesn’t mean they have to be Scottish. Dick Advocaat signed players like Arthur Numan who were leaders but I’m a bit worried about the summer and who is going to come in.

You need to be a special player to know the pressure involved with playing at Rangers and be able to handle it.

I look at Celtic and see that throughout their team. They are so far ahead and that’s why Aberdeen, where Derek McInnes has done a great job, must be the first target.

“Forget about Celtic. It hurts me to say it but they are well ahead at the moment.

Let’s deal with the Dons first. Make sure we are going to challenge them for second and then talk about Celtic.”

Ferguson was rejected by Caixinha for the job of becoming number three and has become increasingly disillusioned by events at Ibrox as he concentrates on his media commitments with the Daily Record and Radio Scotland.
