Embarrassing McLeish returns

Less than a week after calling for Celtic to be handicapped Alex McLeish was at Hampden yesterday picking up a cheque from William Hill to promote the Scottish Cup Final.

McLeish made his bizarre claim on talkSPORT oblivious to the irony that for over a decade the hoops were handicapped- as were all Scottish clubs- against the financially doped monster than he managed in Govan.

As he flicks through his property portfolio or checks up on his income from ‘Trusts’ the former Ibrox boss can be thankful that every day he was at Ibrox his club were enjoying a financial benefit over everyone else.

According to BBC Scotland McLeish had £1.7m paid into an EBT, of the players that he signed Nacho Novo, Dado Prso and Thomas Buffel were enticed by illegal tax scams.

Every game that they played they were ineligible for as they picked up illegal tax payments- no punishment has yet been dished out for the games that those players were involved in.

Discussing Celtic’s dominance to talkSPORT last week McLeish said: “They’ll have to have what they do with the racing driving, put weights on their legs or something to handicap them for next season because it’s been pretty embarrassing the way the Scottish league has gone this year with Celtic’s total domination.”

Yesterday as he promoted the William Hill Scottish Cup McLeish discussed Ryan Jack’s likely move from Aberdeen to Sevco.

The prospect of that move highlights the farce that is Scottish football where no Financial Fair Play rules are enforced.

Allowing a club with no audited accounts and debt equivalent to their annual turnover to sign additional players is an act of utter madness.

While Aberdeen fans suffer the loss of Jack they can be certain that their club will still be in business next season but until clubs like Aberdeen insist on FFP they’ll continue to lose players to the clubs from Ibrox.
