John ‘We Are The People’ Gilligan has walked away from his Sevco blazer.

Gilly campaigned with Dave King for regime change in March 2015 and stood arm in arm alongside the South African based criminal and Paul Murray as they celebrated their ‘victory’.

The former Tennent Caledonian Breweries high flyer had no money to put into the company but was known as a right good blue nose who travelled regularly to Ireland to meet supporter representatives.

At the end of March Gilly and Murray were removed from the board of the football club onto the less important Rangers International Football Club board.

Tonight’s dismissal disguised as a resignation further dilutes King’s influence on the board as the Takeover Appeal Board clamp down on his refusal to comply with their demand that a takeover offer is made to all shareholders.

Having failed to convince King to comply with the ruling or step aside it seems that Finance Director Stewart Robertson is trying to isolate King in a bid to save the club from the sanctions that the TAB will apply.

In his ‘resignation’ statement Gilly said: ““There is still much to do but I am confident that the board will not fail our supporters, whose never-ending loyalty drives our club forward, and I thank each and every one of you for the tremendous backing we have received. I am looking forward to returning to my place beside you every week.

Finally, let me say it has been a privilege to serve this wonderful club and its supporters at boardroom level. It has been like living the dream and I am honoured to be able to say that I was deemed worthy to be a director of this Scottish institution and the greatest football club in the world.”

With no audited accounts and a business dependent on soft loans the chances of Brother Pedro getting a war-chest to compete with Aberdeen are getting bleaker by the day.

Last week Club 1872, the official organisation of fans, was left with just one director with Craig Houston among those walking away.

Gilly departs with the blue room bare, in his last ‘Old Firm’ clash he watched Celtic win 5-1 at Ibrox with Sevco finishing 39 points behind the champions of Scotland.
