Hateley on the attack

Mark Hateley has slaughtered the signing policy of Mark Warburton.

Nine months ago the former city trader was heading up the #goingfor55 campaign but these days his name is only mentioned with disdain at Ibrox.

After winning the Petrofac Cup and Championship last season Warbo went on a signing spree that brought 11 top names to Ibrox.

Only Clint Hill has made any impact on the team this season with the 38-year-old unlikely to be offered a new contract for next season.

Stars such as Josh Windass, Micky O’Halloran and Matt Crooks are on lucrative contracts through until 2020 with Hateley pulling no punches about the biggest problem Brother Pedro faces.

The biggest problem for Pedro is what he has inherited,” the Sevco ambassador told the Daily Record.

Warburton’s recruitment was a failure. Without naming names, we could all see there were players brought in who simply could not fit in at Rangers.

Warburton also only had one plan and as a coach you need have Plan A, B, C and D when you go into a match.

You have to be proactive and change a game before your opposite number changes things – and all of that was surprisingly poor.

I thought Mark would have had more all-round knowledge of the game rather than be one-dimensional. Good coaches can see things happening and adapt.

Look at Brendan Rodgers. He is proactive and makes changes when they are needed.”

Warburton is expected to press forward with his claim for unfair dismissal as soon as the season ticket money for next season starts to come in.

The former city trader signed a new three year contract in June 2016 but was informed in February that he had resigned before being on the receiving end of some scathing criticism from Dave King.
