No need for Musonda?

Celtic have been linked with an unlikely move for Charly Musonda.

According to a report in the Daily Mail the Chelsea midfielder could be on his way to Celtic on loan.

All of Brendan Rodgers’ signings to date have been permanent transfers with little sign of the Irishman showing interest in developing players for other clubs.

Rodgers approach is to work with players over an extended period to improve their game rather than go for a quick fix to a problem with no real commitment.

Knowing that Patrick Roberts will be back at Manchester City at the end of the season and with James Forrest under contract Rodgers has until recent weeks preferred to select Forrest.

Musonda is described as a Belgian playmaker but ended his loan spell to Real Betis in November and has yet to start a match for Chelsea.

Unless it is on a permanent basis it’s hard to see what benefit there is to Celtic in bringing in Musonda in only to return him to Chelsea with the benefit of a season’s top team football including, hopefully, playing in the Champions League.
