As Celtic prepare to face Aberdeen in a first v second shoot out Brendan Rodgers has recalled some of the embarrassing pre-season predictions.
Scott Brown was openly laughed at for claiming that Aberdeen would be Celtic’s biggest challengers with many pundits predicting an Ibrox title party to justify the #goingfor55 campaign.
Aberdeen were given credit for keeping up the semblance of a challenge but with Mark Warburton operating in the top flight a shoot-out between the two Glasgow clubs was anticipated.
As it is Sevco will finish much closer to Partick Thistle than the six times champions with Rodgers acknowledging the impressive work that Aberdeen have carried out despite having to live within their means and comply with UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules.
“I remember back in pre-season the drums were being banged about Rangers going on to win this league, be the closest rivals to Celtic,” the Celtic boss states in The Sun.
“But Aberdeen are nine points ahead of Rangers and will finish in second place that is because the great work Derek – his team of coaches and support staff and players – has done.
“They have done very well and so we anticipate a tough game as have been the other games.”
Celtic face Aberdeen tomorrow night looking to hit the 100 points mark and go 30 points ahead of McInnes’ side ahead of the Scottish Cup Dinal in two weeks time.
