Brendan Rodgers has dropped a huge hint that Dominic Solanke is in his transfer plans.
The teenage striker is out of contract with Chelsea at the end of the season and could join Celtic for a cut price development fee on £400,000.
Normal practise is for managers to deflect questions off as speculation but Rodgers was happy to give a resume of Solanke’s career from the age of EIGHT!
“[There’s] nothing much other than I know Dominic well,” STV reported Rodgers saying. “I took Dominic into Chelsea when he was eight years of age.
“When I was academy director at Reading I left to go to Chelsea back in 2004 and at that time Dominic was one of the first young players I took in.
“He worked at the development centres at Reading and when I moved to Chelsea we took him in.
“I’m delighted for him and the career that he’s had up until now as a young player. He’s a fantastic talent but [I can say] no more that. I only speak on him because I know the player.
“He’s a big talent and it’s unfortunate that he’s maybe not going to renew his contract at Chelsea because it’s a great club but he obviously deems that his future lies elsewhere.
“Apart from that, nothing else to add. I can see where there’s maybe a connection with him but nothing more than that.”
After the early season exploits of Moussa Dembele, Rodgers revealed that agents for a number of players had been in contact to discuss similar deals.
If Solanke moved to an English club Chelsea can expect a development fee in the region of £8m but if he moves to outside of England a fee closer to £400,000 would be involved.
Fiorentina and RB Leipzig are also said to be interested in the striker but with the Rodgers connection and the example of Dembele Celtic are in a strong position to bring the England youth team striker to Glasgow.
