Sutton puts the boot in

Chris Sutton has rubbed salt in Pedro Caixinha’s wounds by telling the fifth best coach in Qatar that no more than three of his players would get in the Aberdeen side.

The obsession with catching Celtic blew up spectacularly for Mark Warburton with Brother Pedro left to pick up the pieces and hope that Dave King is a man of his word!

Claims that the gap can be closed over the next two to three years is clearly wishful thinking with all the evidence suggesting that Celtic are moving further away from the tribute act on a weekly basis.

Despite losing their last two home matches Aberdeen are 10 points clear of Sevco and look a good bet to maintain or better that gap again next season.

Sutton likes to go against the grain when it comes to opinions and isn’t prepared to sugar coat the realities that need to be faced at Ibrox.

Looking at events on the park Sutton believes that Derek McInnes’ side are miles better off than the squad Caixinha labelled as the best in Scotland.

I’d have Clint Hill at the back, I’d be 50-50 over Shay Logan and James Tavernier at right-back and I’d have Kenny Miller up front alongside Adam Rooney,” he stated in the Daily Record.

Given the monies that are paid respectively at both clubs for wages that’s an absolute scandal for Rangers and it’s down to the recruitment of Mark Warburton and Frank McParland.

Visionaries? The pair of them couldn’t see through the glasses Pedro was arranging around the press conference table at Hampden last weekend.

Caixinha has been left a total mess. He could play double-block, triple-press, whatever he wants to call it but getting reinforced glass and filling the goals with it is his best opportunity of halting Celtic.

That’s because the Rangers players are bang average. Anyone can see that.”

Sutton added: “King has made rather a lot of bold statements but he and his board are going to have to start backing them up.

Caixinha has spoken about trusting him to find the right players. He’s got a lot that he wants and listening to him discuss how he changed his team within six months in Mexico and made them champions was interesting.

Sounds like he has the ideas and knows who and what he wants. So how does that fit in with King’s director of football? What will he say about those signing targets when he arrives? If he arrives? If that plan is even still on the table.

It’s down to King to respond to Rangers’ watershed moment. Caixinha says he’s got the best board in the world so over to you Dave.”
