The Dembele template

Lubo Moravcik believes that Moussa Dembele can be the template for future Celtic signings.

A year ago the Frenchman was out of contract with options to move to a number of Premier League clubs- plus Celtic.

Staying in England would have led to a season spent on the substitute bench with a few appearances in cup competitions or being sent out on loan to Fulham or another Championship side.

As he prepares for international duty with the French u21 side Dembele can look at three winners medals, 32 club goals and a Champions League double against Manchester City that put him centre stage across Europe.

Moravcik watched events unfold from afar and expects more players to come to Celtic to enjoy the Dembele experience.

I hope he stays for another season and scores good goals in the Champions League,” Moravcik told the Evening Times.

I think he has been a good example for young players. He has shown them that it is a good idea to come to Celtic and play in this league. It is maybe easier to score goals here at the beginning of your career than it is in England or other bigger leagues.

The Scottish league is good and Celtic is a big club with fantastic fans. It is a pleasure to play here.

I think playing against good clubs at a higher level in the Champions League is maybe the best thing for him now. It will be good for him to test himself at that level.”

AC Milan and Arsenal are the latest clubs linked with an interest in Dembele but the same reasons that brought him to Celtic a year ago are still relevant.

With three years left in his contract Celtic remain in control of any transfer activity.
