The fraud trial of Craig Whyte came to a surprise halt this morning when the defence team announced that they wouldn’t be calling any witnesses.
After 22 days of prosecution witnesses including Ally McCoist, Walter Smith and Dave Murray more fireworks were expected when the defence called in their witnesses.
With a mountain of paperwork and audio recordings as evidence the trial had been expected to last for 12 weeks as the negotiations leading up to the £1 takeover of the club were laid bare.
On Tuesday the jury was dismissed early after the defence completed their evidence with today’s announcement coming as a surprise.
It had been anticipated that a number of big hitters in Scottish football would be called by the defence.
