Celtic tied up the u-17 title tonight when Hamilton Accies drew 1-1 at Hibs on the back of the hoops 6-0 win at Aberdeen this afternoon.

With two matches still to be played Michael O’Halloran’s side can’t be caught after a burst of four wins in nine days as their title rivals wilted.

Hamilton needed to beat beat Hibs to keep the issue alive going into back-to-back games against Celtic but conceded a goal ten minutes from time to hand the title to the hoops although they did manage an equaliser.

Earlier in the day Celtic had killed off Aberdeen’s title hopes with the Dons first team watching the action.

A home win would have put Aberdeen six points ahead of Celtic with the hoops having three matches left to play but a 6-0 win drew the two teams level on points with Celtic having a far superior goal difference.

The league campaign had been put on hold as five bhoys travelled to Croatia to represent Scotland in the European Championships.

Jack Aitchison led the way with a hat-trick with further goals from Kristi Marku, Stephen Welsh (with his fourth in four matches) and Tom Caffrey.

On their return the young hoops won away at Kilmarnock and Motherwell last week, at home to Kilmarnock on Sunday morning then 6-0 at Aberdeen to put the pressure on Hamilton.

On Friday night Celtic host Hamilton at Lennoxtown before completing the season away to Hamilton and Sevco. Last month the u-17s retained the Glasgow Cup.
