Brendan Rodgers is in line for a £6m transfer boost from his old club Liverpool.

Despite interest from Chelsea and Manchester City there are strong indicators that Virgil van Dijk is on his way to Liverpool.

Across the boards most media outlets are reporting that the former Celtic defender has indicated that his preference is to go to Liverpool with Jurgen Klopp and not cash the deciding factor.

On TalkSport this morning, Micky Quinn, who forecast the move month ago, explained that despite better financial offers from elsewhere the player had indicated some time ago that Liverpool was his preferred destination..

According to The Guardian Liverpool will match the £200,000/week wages on offer from Manchester City with the transfer fee reaching towards £60m.

Celtic’s sell on clause is a closely guarded secret but at a minimal guess a 10% cut on Southampton’s profit will give Brendan Rodgers a £5m boost for his spending plans.

Van Dijk has been out of action through injury since January but is believed to be close to full fitness.
