Mixed up Alastair Johnston has accused Craig Whyte of ‘murdering an institution’.

On the day that the former billionaire was freed over charges that he used fraud to buy out Dave Murray’s £1 share in the club Johnston was announced as a director of Rangers International Football Club.

During the 31 day trial the reputation of the American based businessman was trashed as he neglected the welfare of the company while chasing short term gains on the pitch such as beating Celtic by whatever means.

As Murray closed in on a deal with Whyte Johnston couldn’t come up with an alternative option.

Once the deal was completed he could have published the internal report carried out on Whyte which disclosed that he wasn’t a billionaire. Instead of warning the fans and shareholders Johnston stayed silent and hoped for the best.

With hindsight he told Mark Daly of the BBC: “Candidly he should have been charged with murder, murder of an institution.

“Destruction of people’s passion, destruction of the spirit of hundreds of thousands of Rangers’ fans. That’s what he should have been charged with. Then it would have been a no brainer.”

It seems a no-brainer to have Johnston on the board of any football club. With his track record consisting of first class travel and expenses and being unable to bring a thin dime to the table only someone with no brain would offer Johnston a seat on the board of directors.
