Steven Naismith has dismissed any prospect of a summer switch to Sevco.

News that Norwich were hoping to ditch their £50,000/week striker instantly had the deluded debating whether or not he should be given the red carpet treatment at Ibrox.

Some Sevco fans bear a grudge against Naismith after he used TUPE legislation to make a multi-million move to Everton rather than join the new club.

A joint press conference with Steven Whittaker struck home a few uncomfortable truths about the new venture with his comments about Charles Green turning out to be strikingly accurate.

The reality of giving up £45,000 a week to play alongside Pedro Caixinha’s misfits made a move a non-runner with the former Everton man breaking the news gently in an interview with The Sun.

I signed expecting to see out my contract and that’s what I think I’ll be doing,” he explained about his Carrow Road deal which runs till the summer of 2019.

I’ll go down for pre-season. Obviously, when any new manager comes in, that can change if you’re not in his plans.

I’m going back to work as hard as I can, show my worth and hopefully he accepts me and wants me to be a big part of his squad.

As you get older, it’s all about routine and playing, so that’s when you do need to think about playing more.

I’ve got two years left of my contract there, I still think I can contribute massively and help the club get to where they want to be, and we’ll see how it goes in pre-season.”

He added: “I think I will come back to Scotland at some point to play, to finish off hopefully, and I’ll assess my options when that day comes, but I don’t like to think too far in front.”

Naismith was recovering from a cruciate ligament injury when Rangers went into administration in February 2012 then refused to transfer his terms and conditions to the new club in June of that year.

In July 2012 as a free agent he signed a four year contract with Everton then moved to Norwich in January 2016 in a £8.5m deal.

He is still highly regarded by Everton fans after various charity work including buying season tickets for unemployed fans to use.
