Anton Rodgers continued his unlikely Celtic career with an appearance against RW Linz in Austria today.

His dad, Brendan, made full use of the hoops squad with ten changes at half-time against the side just promoted to the top division in Austria with James Forrest scoring the only goal of the game in the 83rd minute.

Rodgers Jnr played in central midfield alongside Nir Bitton but it’s hard to see him earning a contract with Callum McGregor, Stuart Armstrong and Eboue Kouassi all available in that position.

Last season the 24-year-old made 19 League One appearances for Swindon having previously turned out for Oldham, Exeter and Brighton.

The match itself was a great workout for the hoops with the Austrian’s not slow to put in an unfriendly challenges with Jonny Hayes and Leigh Griffiths taking heavy knocks in the first half.

In the 19th minute McGregor saw a shot pushed onto the crossbar after receiving a pass from Gary Mackay-Steven.

Jamie McCart was the only player to survive the half-time changes but was replaced on the hour by Dedryck Boyata with a low shot from Forrest in the 83rd minute giving Celtic a winning start to the new season.
