Tom Boyd has slammed Alan McRae’s wish to have a strong challenge from ‘Rangers’ competing with Celtic.

The comments from the SFA president were widely criticised along with his view that another Celtic treble would be boring and dreary.

McRae is officially associated with Cove Rangers but was a close associate of the disgraced Campbell Ogilvie who managed the Discount Option Scheme and Employee Benefit Trust’s which allowed Rangers (IL) to cheat Scottish football for over a decade.

Boyd doesn’t play along with the accepted script within Scottish football and wasn’t slow to air his views about McRae’s wishes.

I’m very surprised that [McRae] picked out one particular team when we’re looking for the best for Scottish football,” the 72 times capped former Scotland defender told STV.

“Obviously he has his own opinions but I totally disagree with him. I want all the teams to be up there although I still want Celtic to win a treble.”

Rather than express his hopes for an Ibrox treble winning season perhaps the president of the SFA could turn his thoughts to solving the dispute with the Scottish ladies team.

The largely amateur players are locked in a dispute over cash payments with the SFA set to rake in a small fortune from their participation in the European Championships in Germany.

Scotland’s first match is against England on July 19.
