Celtic are expected to complete the signing of Kundai Benyu from Ipswich Town at the weekend.
The 19-year-old has had a chequered career to date but appears to have stabilised himself during a loan stint at Aldershot Town.
Ipswich have a long standing reputation for developing their own players but it seems that Benyu wasn’t pleased with the way things were shaping up for him at Portman Road.
Mick McCarthy didn’t take the players attitude but under Gary Waddock the 19-year-old appears to have saved himself from being added to the soccer scrapheap.
With his contract expiring tomorrow Benyu can decide his own future with the development fee to a non-English club much lower than it would be if he accepted the offers from Spurs, West Ham or Aston Villa.
Described as a box-to-box midfielder the Londoner will face plenty of competition for places in the Celtic side but rather than take a punt on ‘project signings’ Rodgers will have very definite plans for the 19-year-old once he joins Celtic.
