Kristoffer Ajer is confident that he can help Celtic past Rosenborg.
The 19-year-old was pitched in to his top team debut last night and ended the night with a clean sheet and man-of-the-match award.
Rosenborg did create a couple of chances but despite being short of match fitness Celtic looked like they’ll have enough to get through next week’s return match in Germany.
Ajer will be hoping to keep his place in the side and has the bonus of scoring against the Norwegian champions when he visited them wearing an IK Start shirt.
“I have played in Trondheim before, it’s a good atmosphere and a nice pitch,” the defender told The Sun. “We’re looking forward to it.
“Rosenborg are a big team in Norway. I lost last time but I managed to score, so we’ll see how it goes next week.
“They made it difficult for us. They had a good structure as expected.
“We had a lot of the ball and we played well as a team but we just couldn’t get that final touch in the final third. That’s all we lacked.
“Do we believe we will get a goal in Norway? We always go in to games trying to score. We will have to defend well in Trondheim as well but hopefully we will do that.
“It will be a tough game for us against Rosenborg but we will go there with ambitions to do well.”
Brendan Rodgers praised his players after the match for not losing a goal and adapting to playing without a striker.
The hoops boss is hopeful that Leigh Griffiths will be available for the return match as Celtic look for the goal or goals to take them into the play-off round.
The third qualifying round has proved difficult for Celtic in recent seasons with a sharp rise in quality of opponents from the second round.
