Pedro Caixinha has accelerated the humiliation of Lee Wallace by explaining that it’s Bruno Alves that represents him on the pitch and provides leadership and experience.

The ageing former Cagliari defender was all set to be given the armband when Caixinha was told that humiliating Waldo wouldn’t do him any favours in the divided dressing room.

Alves made his long awaited debut against Marseilles on Saturday and apparently transformed the entire team with his 62 minute performance being branded across the board as a touch of class.

Last week Waldo opened the Daily Record to read his former manager Jim Jefferies telling him that handing the armband to his new Portuguese team-mate would transform his game.

Today the Record reports the fifth best coach in Qatar telling Rangers TV: “I really want Bruno to represent me on the pitch, definitely. That’s one situation that I’ve been talking with him about and he’s going to do it very easily.

Bruno, when he just touched the first ball against Marseille, everybody was happy with him, everybody was happy with his leadership.

He’s a great boy, a great man that this club needs, especially having at the back that sort of leadership and experience and understanding of the game.

Bruno is just with us for one week, he arrived one week from today. He’s being quiet, just observing and getting to know everything around him, but he’s that type of leader that doesn’t need to express too much.

Just his presence makes all the guys understand what is going on. In just a small conversation, a one-v-one situation, everybody understands.”

Waldo was given the armband of dignity by Mark Warburton in July 2015 after the departure of Lee McCulloch and led the club to Petrofac Cup glory against Peterhead at Hampden.
