Matt Crooks is looking forward to bigger and better things at Northampton after quitting Sevco.
The former Accrington ace had a nightmare year at Ibrox after being signed by Mark Warburton and jumped at the chance to join the League One outfit.
Despite having a contract until 2020 Crooks opted out and has no regrets about leaving behind the Pedro Caixinha revolution.
“It didn’t go how I wanted it to go at Rangers, but that’s football sometimes,” he told the Daily Record.
“I am just looking forward to the future now, moving past it, and moving on to bigger and better things. Rangers are a big club, but I think at my age you just want to play football.
“When I was at Accrington, obviously the facilities there are nothing like they are at Rangers, but I would probably say I enjoyed it more, because I was playing.
“That’s what you want to do as a footballer, you just want to play. I have been given the opportunity to play here at Northampton, and that’s what I want to do.”
Crooks started just one SPFL match last season before being sent to Scunthorpe on loan in January.
Northampton and Scunthorpe both made bids for the midfielder with Northampton coming out on top with an offer in the region of £60,000.
After arriving at Ibrox Pedro Caixinha claimed that he had the best squad in Scotland but in an interview with a Portuguese newspaper he claimed that he wanted to get rid of 14 players.
Crooks’ former Accrington team-mate Josh Windass is believed to be on the list available for transfer but Rotherham United have denied that they are interested in the midfielder.
