Neil Doncaster has made a complete u-turn on how to punish clubs guilty of not paying tax.
In 2014 the SPFL chief executive was happy to fine Livingston and dock points for non-payment of taxes.
There was no messing around, no QC advise sought and no need to refer the matter to the SFA.
After the verdict Doncaster told the Daily Record: “The tax default and reporting rules are an integral part of maintaining a fair league competition.”
Yesterday, after the whitewash over a decade of fielding ineligible players and withholding tax Doncaster had a change of heart.
He told The Sun: “Arguably, the non-payment of millions of pounds of taxes could be construed as bringing the game into disrepute and that is an area reserved for the SFA.
“Rules concerning financial fair play and non-payment of tax are fairly recent innovations across European football.”

It is quite clear that the SPFL have been making things up as they go along in the mistaken belief that Scottish footballs sole purpose is to provide Old Firm action for Sky Sports.
Over 80,000 fans have joined the Scottish Football Supporters Association to push for change.
If no club is willing to push for change from within the SPFL they are all guilty by association of backing an organisation that operates a separate set of rules for a favoured club.
They may have banked the season ticket money but the next ten months are going to be made very uncomfortable with a Judicial Review threatening to expose the Five Way Agreement of 2012 with clubs either playing an active part in the sham or being so incompetent that they have failed to ask a single question about the document.
The only moving on that will be accepted by the customers is that of Doncaster and those that have kept him in power over the last five shambolic years.
