Ibrox war of words as King hits out

Dave King’s angry and predictably inaccurate attack on Celtic grabbed most of yesterday’s headlines but included in his latest statement was an astonishing attack on David Murray.

The former Rangers (IL) owner seems immune from any criticism for the demise of the club but King bears a heavy grudge.

Having squirred away £20m due to the South African tax authorities with an ‘investment’ in Murray Sport the South African based criminal wasn’t amused by administration and liquidation.

After paying out £19m to avoid an 82 year stretch in Roben Island King looks on enviously at Murray’s cosy relationship with Lloyds Bank that has allowed him to relaunch a business with the few profitable parts of his former empire.

Releasing his anger through the club website King stated: “As David Murray was personally dealing with transfer expenditure, I sought assurances in a board meeting each year that he would stand behind any deficit that could not be immediately funded if he over extended in the transfer market. He gave these assurances and he honoured them until the Murray Group got into financial difficulty.

Put simply, the Murray Group tax scheme helped David Murray reduce his overall investment into Oldco while simultaneously reducing any reliance on increased third-party bank finance. The benefit went exclusively to David Murray and the Murray Group.”

Murray is usually quick to defend himself and deflect attention away from his horrendous business record, particularly at Ibrox.

As Rangers (IL) crashed into the abyss he told his favourite journalists that he had been duped by Craig Whyte although the recent fraud trial proved that the reverse was the case.

If Murray decides to reply to King’s attack it could get very messy as more of the grubby dealings that killed an institution come to light.
