Brendan Rodgers has explained why he won’t be adding a new striker to his squad.

The hoops could line up against Rosenborg tonight without Leigh Griffiths or Moussa Dembele with some fans feeling that the club has been caught short.

Nadir Ciftci seems to be back training with the first team but has been told that he is free to fix up a deal elsewhere leaving 17-year-old Jack Aitchison as the next available striker.

With a surplus of midfield players Rodgers has generally stuck with a 4-2-3-1 system meaning that only one striker is selected which left Griffiths on the sidelines for much of last season.

I’m happy with the squad we have and you can’t control one or two injuries if you get them,” the Celtic boss told the Evening Times.

If you have got two highly-strung strikers who are fighting for a position and then you add a third one to the mix, it can actually work against you.

Some will say you can’t have too many good players, but I think you can. It can give you a problem you don’t need.

It’s just unfortunate if two get injured, so we’ll see. We’ll make do and take it from there.”

If Dembele fails to prove his fitness Tom Rogic is likely to play as a ‘false number nine’ although Scott Sinclair or James Forrest could play a more central role.

Dembele missed training yesterday due to a thigh strain with Erik Sviatchenko also an injury doubt with Kristoffer Ajer on stand by for his first competitive start.
