Brendan Rodgers will wait for further word from UEFA before commenting further on Leigh Griffiths.

The Celtic striker was booked for being the target of a hate filled moron throwing a glass bottle then ended up with a UEFA charge for tying a scarf to a goal pst.

UEFA are taking to action over the racist abuse that Scott Sinclair was subjected to during the match.

Previewing the return leg on Wednesday night STV reported the Celtic manager saying: “I think the actual booking seemed very strange at the time.

“I think everyone in the stadium would have recognised that. It’s an incident I don’t really want to go overboard on, to be honest.

“It happened. It’s not something that we want to see at Windsor Park or any football ground. I was surprised like most people at whatever he did get the booking for.”

On the scarf incident Rodgers added: “It could have been a little bit [reaction to that], a little bit exuberance towards the end but like I say, we’re a team that’s very disciplined in how we work and we’ll remain being that.

“They’ve judged [Griffiths’ action as inflammatory] and it’s irrelevant what I think of it. He’s been judged by UEFA so we take what comes from that.

“We haven’t really spoken about it to be honest. I think the surprise was his booking at the corner.

“If you put yourself up to do what Leigh’s done at the end then there’s possibilities that sanctions can be brought against you.”

Griffiths is likely to miss the second leg due to a calf injury with Rodgers taking no chances a week before the third round tie.

Celtic will know the outcome of the Rosenborg v Dundalk match before they kick off against Linfield with the hoops hosting the winners in the first leg.

Either side would be a massive step up in standard from Linfield without presenting the club with the travel issues involved in playing a club like Astana or Qarabag.
