The Scottish Football Supporters Association campaign to force a change in governance has gone mainstream.

Thursday’s launch at Holyrood, which included former First Minister Henry McLeish, was largely overlooked but today’s Daily Record states the case for change and also provides a link to the survey.

While many fans will bemoan the Record as part of the problem in the Scottish game it does provide a great level of reach and will act as a little warning to clubs about the feelings of their customers.

While Stewart Regan and Neil Doncaster are the obvious fall guys both men owe their positions to the continued support of the member clubs.

With 15 years service between them there hasn’t once been a call from any club for either man to resign.

According to the Record: “They got the backing of MSPs, some of whom are just as sick of banging their heads against a brick wall when it comes to dealing with Scottish football’s authorities.

They way the politicians see it, why should the lords of the game be immune to the scrutiny and accountability they get?

Football is our national sport yet it’s far from a democracy. That’s their motivation. They are demanding transparency.”

With McLeish and other politicians on board and around 80,000 member the SFSA are starting to gain some credibility to pose awkward questions to those inside Hampden.

As a perfect follow up to the launch, Stewart Milne’s ‘time to move on’ comments on Saturday were ideal.

With a concentrated effort, clear and achievable goals in mind, the SFSA may just be about to send the house of cards crashing to the deck and save the Scottish game from those that want it to have the credibility of WWF.
