Ralph Topping is braced for a Judicial Review that could leave the SPFL without a shred of credibility.

The failure to publish the Five Way Agreement and multiple failings in the Nimmo Smith are certain to be exposed if a fan funded Judicial Review takes place.

Leaked copies of the Five Way Agreement show that the club from Ibrox were promised that title stripping wouldn’t be an option in any investigation into the EBT years which turned into secondary contracts.

When the SPL set up the Nimmo Smith enquiry it was to review contracts from July 1998, when the report came back it started from November 2000 neatly avoiding the Discount Option Schemes that the club had admitted guilt for involving Tore Andre Flo and Ronald de Boer.

At the time of the Nimmo Smith enquiry the club had admitted their guilt in five ‘EBT’ cases including Nacho Novo and Dado Prso. Nimmo Smith’s entire report was based on EBTs being legal and available to other clubs.

Topping will step down as chairman of the SPFL but issued a defiant statement despite knowing that his every move over the last six years is about to be reviewed.

There is a body of people who are interested in this, a whole tranche of individuals who are wealthy and who would be prepared to fund something like that,” he told the Daily Record.

The generality of support through crowdfunding could do that. We’re not discounting that. We are comfortable with the legal advice we have been given.

I’m sure there are a lot of smart people out there who may wish to go through some form of legal process but at this point in time I am comfortable with the advice we have been given and confident that we could rebut that.”

Some non wealthy individuals will also be funding the Judicial Review with details to be announced shortly.

Ladbrokes, Betfred, Mitre and Irn-Bru are the major sponsors of Ralph, Neil and friends at the SPFL.
