UEFA have turned to Stephan Klossner to referee Wednesday’s match between Celtic and Linfield.

The 36-year-old Swiss official will be in the spotlight after the erratic display of Alejandro Hernandez during the first tie in Belfast where Leigh Griffiths was booked for reporting a bottle being thrown at him from a Linfield fan.

UEFA appears to have no appeal procedure for bookings meaning that the Celtic striker could be suspended later in the competition for the actions of a supporter.

Klossner is relatively new to the international scene handling his first Europa League group match three years ago.

Last season he handled a Champions League qualifier involving Crusaders and a Europa League qualifier between Gent and Viitorul Constanta as well as two Europa League group matches.

Michael Argyrou is the Referee observer with Emil Ubias (great name!) the UEFA delegate.

Celtic go into Wednesday’s match with a 2-0 lead looking to confirm a third round tie against Rosenborg or Dundalk.
