One hundred and fourteen years ago today Celtic made a massive change that would forever identify the club.

They switched from green and white stripes to hoops.

Few could have imagined the impact that the change would have made with the strip design now a common reference to the club. Hoops bars can be found in many holiday resorts with the phrase hoops incorporated into a number of club songs.

There was no deep and meaningful thinking behind the decision to switch the strip design 90 degrees but it gave the club a greater identity with striped shirts far more pop that hoops.

Celtic soon won six titles in a row wearing their new kit with the strip closely identified with the clubs greatest triumphs.

The strip worn in Lisbon is widely acknowledged as one of the best ever versions of hoops with the new look 2017/18 kit acknowledging that era with just a few modern logos added to a basically simple design.
