Celtic won’t be signing Stefano Denswil from Brugges.

The Dutch defender had been mentioned as a possible solution to the central defensive shortfall but has agreed to join Brighton on a season long loan.

Brugge paid Ajax £2.2m for Denswil in January 2015 and have the 24-year-old under contract until 2020.

With Erik Sviatchenko and Dedryck Boyata both out injured Celtic currently only have Jozo Simunovic as a central defender with top team experience.

Nir Bitton and Kristoffer Ajer played in last week’s Champions League Play Off against Astana but are unlikely to be involved in the group stage matches.

Celtic’s problems in that area were compounded on Saturday when Rivaldo Coetzee of Ajax Cape Town failed a medical after a deal had been agreed.

The hoops are expected to complete the transfer of Odsonne Edouard on a season long loan deal later today with Patrick Roberts finally ending the longest chase of the summer when he signed a season long loan on Monday.
