Celtic’s proposed move for Rivaldo Coetzee could be called off after reports that his medical has uncovered a broken bone in his foot.

On Tuesday Ajax Cape Town announced that a transfer had been agreed for the 20 year old defender but Celtic have been more guarded.

A medical and work permit would be required before Coetzee can sign for Celtic with reports from South Africa today suggesting that the deal has hit a snag.

South African website Soccerladuma reports: “However, its now been revealed to the Siya crew that Rivaldo has a problem with a bone in his foot which does not fuse properly, and that could see the deal fall apart.

The transfer window closes at the end of the month and the Siya crew will continue to monitor the situation.”

Celtic could still go ahead with the signing depending on the extent of the fracture but are more likely to hold off until January for Coetzee to prove his fitness.

Brendan Rodgers remains hopeful of getting a couple of players signed up before the transfer deadline on Thursday at midnight.

Patrick Roberts remains a priority signing but the interest in Coetzee suggests that the hoops boss is also looking to strengthen his defence.
