Brendan Rodgers has virtually ruled Moussa Dembele out of the Champions League opener against Paris St Germain.

The striker made a brief appearance away to Linfield on July 14 and has been out of action since then with a hamstring injury.

Dembele’s last start was on April 23 against Sevco in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup with Rodgers in no mood to take any chances with the striker’s fitness.

I’m not sure whether that will be too early for him but it looks like it,” Rodgers told the Scotsman about Dembele’s prospects of playing against Paris St Germain.

He’s progressing well but that might just come too soon. What’s important is that he gets back for the remainder of the season.”

With Dembele unlikely to be fit Rodgers will be hoping that Leigh Griffiths comes through the international break unscathed.

On the plus side Dedryck Boyata should be available for the visit of Ross County on September 9 after rejoining training on Friday.

The Belgian internationalist was injured in the third pre-season friendly but looks like being ready to face Paris St Germain on September 12.

Last night PSG beat St Etienne, who included Saidy Janko in their side, 3-0 at home to maintain their 100% start to the domestic campaign.
