Leigh Griffiths was delighted to silence Stanimir Stoilov.

The Astana coach had been shouting the odds since his side were paired with Celtic for a place in the group phase of the Champions League.

Losing to a late penalty a year ago at Celtic Park seemed to upset Stoilov with some flare up involving Griffiths also dragged up.

After knocking out Legia Warsaw in the third qualifier the Kazak champions were full of confidence but after killing off their hopes Griffiths was quick to put the boot in to Astana.

They were all full of talk about how they were destined for the Champions League,” the striker told The Sun.

You need to remember we put them out last season. They need to start doing their talking on the pitch.

We don’t shout from the rooftops. We don’t get above our station.

We do our talking on the pitch as you saw tonight. You saw in Norway that given the ability on the counter-attack we have we are always going to score goals.”

The 5-0 result matched the highest ever scoreline in a Champions League play-off and virtually assures Celtic’s place in the draw for the group phase for the second season running.

Twelve months ago it took a last minute penalty from Moussa Dembele to get Celtic past the Kazak champions but there was no debating the margin of victory last night.

Without Dembele and two regular central defenders Celtic were too strong for their opponents with Rodgers poised to repeat last season’s success and deliver a £30m plus boost into Celtic’s bank balance.
