Brendan Rodgers watched Celtic’s dismal European away days and decided to rip up the script.
Under Ronny Deila the hoops crumbled on their travels with the exception of trips to Iceland.
Rodgers suffered a few sore ones away to Hapoel Beer Sheva and Barcelona but away to Astana a year ago there were signs that his message was starting to get through.
Playing a controlled offensive game has brought rewards with credible results returned away to Borussia Monchengladbach, Manchester City and Rosenborg.
Rather than trying to park the bus Rodgers has Celtic retaining possession and playing on the front foot which suits James Forrest perfectly.
“The gaffer said after the game that he had watched Celtic away from home in Europe and we had a tendency to sit back,” Wednesday’s goal hero explained to The Sun.
“So he was delighted that we all wanted the ball and we looked the stronger team and took the game to them, away from home.
“That was great to see because Rosenborg are halfway through their season. So that is credit to the boys and the manager for us finishing like that. Even last year we showed with Manchester City and Borussia Monchengladbach away from home we put on some good performances.
“We played well apart from the game at Barcelona. The way the manager wants us to play it’s high up and that suits for playing away in Europe. There are five teams we can get in the draw.
“Astana, Qarabag and Hapoel Be’er Sheva are amongst them. They are teams we have played before and most of them we have got positive results against.
“We will do our homework against our next opponents and we just need to give it one final push to get into the group stages.
“We are just delighted to be in the draw and looking to get back into the Champions League again.”
At 11am Celtic will discover their play off opponents as they attempt to reach the group phase for the second season running.
With a fortnight until the first leg is played the hoops will have three domestic games behind them before their next venture into European action.
