Two months after his Crystal Palace contract expired Joe Ledley is still without a new club.

With the transfer window closing on Thursday demand for the midfielder is likely to increase as clubs look around to see what free agents are on the market.

At 30 years of age Ledley should have his pick of a number of EPL clubs. Since leaving Celtic in January 2014 he has played in over 80 Premier League matches and helped Wales reach the semi-finals of the European Championships.

Sam Allardyce’s arrival at Palace seemed to bring his Selhurst Park days to a halt but that hasn’t altered his value to the Welsh national side.

Discussing Ledley’s situation Chris Coleman told ITV: ”It’s Joe’s future and he could go and sign for this club or that club. Twenty-four hours in football is a long time. Who’s to say a club might say we’ve got a better offer now? I’ve had that as a manager myself. A player stalled, I waited and ended up with a better offer of a better player.

If there’s something there for you as a player, you have to go and take it. I wouldn’t begrudge Joe travelling anywhere if it was for a move he wanted.”

Wales are currently sitting in third place in Group D trailing Serbia and Ireland by four points after a run of five successive draws.

A win at home to Austria on Saturday is vital if they are to retain hope of qualifying for the finals in Russia with that fixture followed by away trips to Moldova and Georgia.

The final batch of fixtures in Group D sees Wales hosting Ireland with that fixture likely to involve one or both countries having a chance to qualify or reach the play-off’s.
