Jozo Simunovic won’t be putting Burnley ahead of his Champions League dreams.

The former Dinamo Zagreb defender only appeared in two Champions League matches last season as he recovered from injury but has been Brendan Rodgers first choice defender this term.

Weekend reports suggested that Burnley were ready to bid £10m for the Celtic defender but over 45,000 twitter followers were reassured that Simunovic has bigger goals than helping Sean Dyche’s side avoid relegation.

Simunovic missed out on the weekend win at Kilmarnock with a minor knock keeping him out of last night’s 4-3 defeat away to Astana.

After being nursed back to fitness last season following knee surgery Brendan Rodgers is still careful with Simunovic who hasn’t played on an artificial surface.

With four days to prepare for Saturday’s match against St Johnstone he is expected to be back in place ahead of the international break where he is likely to make his debut for Bosnia despite having played for Croatia up to u-21 level.
