Alex McLeish has urged Pedro Caixinha to ignore the background noise and win some football matches.

Green boots, ‘We Are The People’ slogans and an imaginary SPFL managers union that has excluded the fifth best coach in Qatar have all been conveniently aired to mask horrendous results.

Despite the euphoria generated by a 6-0 League Cup win over Dunfermline the knives are being sharpened for Caixinha ahead of Saturday’s game against Hearts.

If Sevco fall more than six points behind the pace setters he is likely to discover that he has resigned with McLeish issuing a gentle warning to the man that beat him to the managers job.

Asked about the side issues the former Aston Villa boss told the Daily Record: “My advice to Pedro would be to keep your powder dry.

I feel he should wait until he has a few victories under his belt before getting involved in other things.

Pedro is working at a phenomenal club and he should be embracing that.

Do not get involved in all of the shenanigans that go on in the technical area or the dugout.

Okay, he has to defend his team and himself but you have to keep a certain amount of dignity when you are the manager of Rangers.

Let me be clear, I’m not saying Pedro has lost his dignity.”

With his dignity intact Caixinha is expected to appeal against Ryan Jack’s red card against Hibs despite television pictures showing the midfielder grabbing Dylan McGeouch by the throat and head butting Anthony Stokes.

Company chairman Dave King attended Saturday’s match but declined to speak to any media outlet about his plans with the club website also spared his thoughts.
