Spartak Moscow are believed to be preparing a bid for Jozo Simunovic.

According to a report in The Sun the Russian champions are looking to bring in the defender to bolster their struggling campaign which sees them sitting in tenth place.

One massive problem for the ‘deal’ would be the artificial surface at the Luzhniki Stadium with Simunovic missing out on Celtic’s matches on plastic pitches.

Brendan Rodgers has nursed the defender back to fitness over the last season but tellingly left him out of the last two matches away to Kilmarnock and Astana who both play on artificial pitches.

Earlier this week the Celtic boss was dismissive of a bid coming in from Burnley.

Celtic signed Simunovic from Dinamo Zagreb two years ago in a weighted deal that cost an initial £2.5m with the Croatian side insisting on a large cut of any transfer fee.

With three years still to run on his contract Celtic are in control of the situation with the Champions League draw the opportunity for him to showcase his ability to a massive audience.
