Patrick Roberts can’t wait to do justice to the number seven Celtic jersey.
Nadir Ciftci and Freddie Ljungberg have been two of the lesser known players to have ‘graced’ the jersey since Henrik Larsson headed to Barcelona with Roberts looking to pick up on the Swede and the club’s most iconic number seven- Jimmy Johnstone.
Shirts with ‘Roberts 7’ will be flying out of the Celtic megastore as quickly as they can be printed over the next week with the loan bhoy aware of the responsibility he’ll be carrying this season.
“It’s a massive honour to wear this iconic Celtic number,” he stated in his Celtic TV interview.
“I know some of the great players who have worn it in the past and I will wear it with pride. Celtic Park was rocking last season during the Champions League and I’m sure it will be the exact same this year.
“I would love to be out there playing for the fans in that environment and entertaining them. I love it here and to be back is great and I’m thankful to be finally here.
“We had a good end to the season, which helped obviously, and playing for these great fans was also a factor coming back. It’s great to be back and I can’t wait to get going again.”
Roberts will find Lennoxtown rather quiet this morning with the bulk of his team-mates away on international duty.
With so many players away Roberts will be able to get back into the Celtic way of things in preparation for next Friday’s match away to Hamilton Accies.
September 12 promises to be quiet a day when he returns to Celtic Park to face Paris St Germain in the Champions League.
